The salient features of a commentary are:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><br>the subject-matter of the commentary must relate to a case decided in the courts, or a change in legislation, procedure, regulation, practice guidance, or proposals for any such change;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the length of the commentary should be between 750 and 1,000 words;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the commentary must explore the practical effects of the development in a broad context;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in the case of a court decision, thoughts could include comments on:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an unexpected extension of an existing principle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the development of a line of authority<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>comparisons with previous judgments handed down by the same judge or court<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>comparisons with the legal position in overseas jurisdictions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>potential unintended consequences of the decision;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether a previous case might have been decided differently following this result;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether the decision is likely to be upheld or overturned on appeal;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether an appeal has been lodged<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether permission to appeal has been refused or granted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in the case of a change in legislation, procedure, regulation, practice guidance, or proposals for any such change, thoughts could include comments on \u2013\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the likely impact of the change<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether the change reflects, or departs from, an underlying trend<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether the change is consistent with the position in overseas jurisdictions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether there are any hidden consequences, and whether any ameliorating action should be taken.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commentary will be accompanied by a short (no more than 50 words) biography of the author, along with the logo of his\/her company or firm.
